Black Rock House was built in 1856 by Victoria's first Auditor-General, Charles Hotson Ebden as his seaside retreat. Complete with a castle wall and Moreton Bay Figs, this historic home in the Melbourne Bayside suburb of Black Rock has a fascinating past.
Throughout its rich history, Black Rock House has been utilised as a meeting place for Melbourne's elite, as a retreat for Governor Sir Henry Barkly and also as a private house.
All are welcome to take a tour of Black Rock House on the first Sunday of each month. Tours by costumed guides take place between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.
Tours are free but donations to the Friends of Black Rock House's work are welcome.
